Functional Genomics Core FAQs

General

The Functional Genomic Core's equipment is open to any registered user of the laboratory. We already have many common tasks programmed on our Biomek robots. We are also happy to write custom programs our robots to perform any protocol of your choosing.

We try to supply the common laboratory incidentals (gloves, kimwipes, tips, tube racks, and pipettors). If your work involves a substantial amount of pipetting it is expected that you furnish your own tips. The staff will be happy to assign storage drawers to regular users of the facility.

To use the instruments in the FGC you need to register an iLab account. Once you have created an iLab account you will be able to schedule instruments or use them on a walk up basis.

The Functional Genomic Core is open to the entire University research community as well as private researchers.

The CLARIOstar plus, Operetta CLS, Octet Red384, and Singer RoToR HDA are available for independent use with training. Our staff will program and operate the Biomek FX to perform high-throughput cell manipulations, or other custom liquid handling operations, drug/compound screening, or RNAi screening.

The Functional Genomics Core is located in Keating room 124 at 1657 East Helen Street
